Year of Arts and Culture Incentive Grants, 2007-2008
To support teaching, research, and outreach initiatives linking cultural disciplines and public policy
Offered in collaboration with the College of Arts and Letters Office of Outreach and Engagement, these grants are intended as ‘seed money’ ($500) to support teaching, research, and outreach initiatives that explore links between the cultural disciplines and public policy. These incentive grants are part of the 2007-2008 Year of Arts and Culture, a university-wide effort to position arts and culture at the University as relevant, accessible components of academic and community life. Award recipients will be selected on the basis of the proposed project’s connection to public policymaking, its potential influence thereon, and its plan to evaluate the proposal’s impact on its targeted audience. For more information, please view the Incentive Grants flyer (PDF - 70 KB). Application deadline: April 30, 2008. Details about accepted projects coming soon.

Public Arts and Humanities Faculty Fellowship Program, 2007-2008
To support and advance cultural engagement in arts, humanities, and design at Michigan State University
This program is offered in partnership with the University Outreach and Engagement office and the College of Arts and Letters Office of Outreach and Engagement. It is designed to establish and facilitate a new model for faculty professional development that emphasizes outreach and engagement as an important part of research/scholarship, teaching, and professional service. The fellowship requires professional service related to their academic disciplines and expertise for a community organization. In addition, the fellows design research or artwork related to this service or to theorizing public engagement, and plan and teach a course which includes an active learning component. The program awards each fellow a stipend for course replacement costs (quarter-time faculty buy-out) and a modest budget to support professional development. Selection was based on the proposal’s quality, potential impact, capacity to deliver outcomes, and evidence of candidate’s commitment to the goals of the Fellowship Program and potential to act as a resource to other department/college faculty.
